Chris’ Internship With Shropshire Council

Chris is on a Supported Internship with County Training and Enable. We arranged a work placement for Chris with Shropshire Council as a Covid-19 Response Worker, making welfare phone calls to Domiciliary Care providers.

In these challenging times Chris has had a positive approach to the difficulties presented to him. He has successfully adapted to a work placement based from his home using a laptop, with some remote Job Coach support provided by Enable.

Chris has gained confidence in his role of phoning Domiciliary Care provider managers in a welfare capacity. He has questions to ask and sometimes sensitive topics to raise, which can sometimes be daunting. Chris is developing good listening skills while responding with empathy, tact, and sometimes humour. Chris then documents the responses into an Excel spreadsheet while some issues require Chris to compose and send emails to managers to provide information.

Chris says that some of the phone calls are really good, especially when he feels like he is helping people out. He enjoys his day and finds his role fulfilling. We know from feedback that these calls are really valued by the Domiciliary providers.

Chris has become one of the team, getting to know everyone at the weekly meetings.

Well done, Chris. This is a great step towards future paid employment!
