Supported Internships
Services are available in Shropshire
A Supported Internship is a study programme for young people aged 16-24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and want to move into employment.
The programme is designed to help young people develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to secure paid work. While interns continue their education through college, the main focus is on learning in the workplace. Around 70% of the programme takes place within a local business, giving interns the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in a real working environment.
Enable works alongside the college and employer to provide personalised support throughout the programme, including job coaching where required, helping interns to develop independence and prepare for future employment.
What does a Supported Internship involve?
A typical timetable may include:
- Work placement and workplace training
- Job coach support where required
- English and maths
- Personal and social development
- Employability and vocational learning
- Tutorials and progress reviews
Every Supported Internship is tailored to the individual's strengths, interests and career goals, with the aim of progressing into paid employment or an apprenticeship at the end of the programme.
