Julie’s Success Story

Julie was made redundant from her role as a Kitchen Assistant at Tesco in 2019. She had been in this role for 26 years, so this came as a real shock to Julie and her family. The pandemic then hit, and Julie was uncertain about her future with finding employment.

With support from her family, Julie visited her local hub and was put in touch with Enable to support her in her return to work.

Julie attended several meetings with her Employment Officer to assess her needs and capabilities and build up a relationship to ensure she could be matched to a suitable role. Julie and her EO compiled an up-to-date CV and completed regular job search sessions to build an idea of the types of roles available to her, in her area.

A role as a Catering Assistant was identified at PGL Borretton Park in Baschurch. From the first contact, PGL was very accommodating and supportive and invited Julie and the EO for an informal chat and a tour of the kitchen and canteen. Julie quickly felt that this would be a great place to work, so submitted an application.

Julie had support throughout the whole application and interview process, particularly as it was all online and Julie did not have access to a laptop or smartphone. Julie was offered employment as a Catering Assistant, offered the days and hours which suited her.

For her first few weeks, Julie was supported by a Job Coach to ensure she understood her role and settled in well. As her new colleagues were supportive, Julie felt confident to work independently, only a few weeks in.

Julie has now been working for 3 months and passed her probationary period. She loves her new job and looks forward to going each week. Julie continues to be grateful for the support she receives from Enable and couldn’t have done it without their support.
