Enable offers a range of individual support for people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties who are keen to get into work. We have a team of Employment Support Specialists who support people throughout their employment journey.

  • Job coaching when required – this is active, in-work support to people from day one of a job, supporting the employee and providing a valuable link for the employer

We understand that anyone starting a new job or learning a new task can sometimes need extra help. Our support helps individuals to retain information at their own pace, build up confidence and get to know new people. We help our clients with many different challenges through our team of highly skilled Job Coaches who work alongside them on an individual basis, ensuring tasks are undertaken competently and safely, as well as providing guidance and encouragement along the way. We also understand that everyone has a skills gap and we are able to work closely with individuals to fill that gap.

As well as our wealth of experience, we are able to adapt our approach to working with each individual, which allows us to be flexible with both the employer and the client in how we meet different people’s needs in order to achieve a successful outcome for all.


What is the referral criteria for this service?

In order to refer to the Disability Employment Services Team, the individual must:

  • People who have a disability and are currently receiving a social care service from social work teams
  • Based within the Shropshire area
  • ‘Disability’ covers anyone with a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial (taking longer than it usually would to complete a daily task) or long-term (12 months or more) negative effect on your ability to carry out normal daily activities and people suffering from a progressive condition (one that gets worse over time)
  • People who have a disability and are currently receiving a social care service from community hubs
  • People can now be referred directly from the Autism Hub
  • People with a disability who need employment support to prevent them from becoming future social care clients (‘Prevention customers’) and fulfil one of the following:
    • Have previously been on the caseload of local authority Adult Social Care services in the last three years
    • A young person (16-25 years) who is or has previously been on the caseloads of local authority Children’s disability services in the last three years or have an EHC plan
    • A young person (16-25 years) who is or has previously been a customer of local authority Childrens Services in the last three years or has been referred by Shropshire Youth eg. Care Leaver
