Enable’s Refugee Support Scheme is designed to help any refugee settled in the Shropshire area move toward their preferred employment goals while integrating into life in their new homes. The programme is free to access to anyone that has entered the country as a refugee.

While our primary focus is to support individuals into paid employment, to help them live fulfilling and independent lives in Shropshire, we understand this can only be achieved with a person-centred approach. This means adapting our service to meet each individual’s needs.

We hope to support you with the below:

• Sourcing appropriate English courses to learn the language, both online and in a classroom
• Look at your existing qualifications to see if they fit the UK system, and what further competencies may need to be studied to continue this line of work in the UK
• Help you to consider alternative types of employment while settling in the UK
• Help you to attain further qualifications to support you into paid employment
• Help you to construct a UK-style CV and appropriate cover letters to approach UK businesses with employment opportunities
• Find appropriate jobs in the UK for you to apply for and support you with these applications

How is the provision accessed?

To get started and meet an Employment Officer, we would recommend that you COMPLETE OUR ENQUIRY FORM.

You can also arrange to meet us at your local refugee hub.

Your first appointment with an Employment Officer will be an opportunity for us to get to know you, to understand your work history and what type of work you are looking for in the UK. We will ask some questions about where you currently live so we can make appropriate recommendations to you based on your location and transport options. We may also be able to direct you to appropriate housing support in your community. This initial appointment will help you to work together with our team to agree on your action plan and make sure we are giving you the most appropriate support.

We can meet you face-to-face (offline) or through virtual online meetings, to save you the expenses of travelling. You will have regular meetings with your Employment Officer and be invited to attend further training with our dedicated Training Officers to improve your CV, complete job search activity and source appropriate training opportunities. We offer our meetings through Microsoft Teams – you can join us from any smart device without making an account.

When you begin volunteer work, paid employment or a training course we will keep in touch with you to see how things are going. We’re eager to help you to keep working toward your career goals and take steps that will help you to feel settled in Shropshire.

Support for Employers

If you are a business, big or small, that would be open to recruiting a refugee to your team but want some more information on how to best support them please get in touch. One of our training team would be happy to meet with you over the phone, online or at your workplace, to talk about the advantages of expanding your team and help to candidate-match with the highly skilled refugees already engaged with us that are actively seeking paid work.
