Marie’s Success Story

Marie has been carrying out her Supported Internship with Hereford & Ludlow College and Enable. Her work placement was sourced quickly and she was able to start at Canny Cuts Dog Grooming in Coleham, Shrewsbury.

During the last year, it has been very challenging for Interns with the gradual easing of restrictions and employers being resistant to take on voluntary placements following mass furloughs and redundancies. Luckily for Marie, she managed to get into work and is on placement x2 days a week at Canny Cuts and 1 day a week at the Exotic Zoo in Telford plus attending College.

She continues to develop in the animal care environment and loves to get stuck in with learning all about dogs and their care when it comes to grooming. She was supported for several months by members of the Enable Job Coaching team and they steadily reduced their support as Marie became more confident and competent with her routine tasks.

Marie enjoys washing the dogs with specialist shampoos (she is able to recognise which dogs will need certain products), she gives them facials and has learnt the different drying techniques required for the different parts of the dog.

Canny Cuts Manager, Mel Overend, said that Marie was very diligent and gets things done efficiently. She said Marie’s confidence has grown with the role and she gets on really well with the team. She interacts well with members of the public who bring in and collect their dogs and she is consistently improving in all areas.

Well done Marie, great steps towards paid employment.
